The FFXIV YouTube Channel

— Posted by babbie @ 02:24
Square Enix has opened up a brand new YouTube channel for FFXIV! In "Life in Eorzea", Square Enix staff members give viewers a brief introduction to their characters and what they can do within the game. Unfortunately, it's all in Japanese, but here is what's going on:

First, we are introduced to Riekom, Julia and Aratam, our narrators. They are a Hyur, Lalafell and Roegadyn, respectively. They comment that the alpha test for FFXIV is finally set to begin, and for today's video, they will give us a small tour. As the three characters stand over a balcony, the camera pans and they wonder what everyone thinks of this beautiful land.In a store, they take a look around and marvel at the large amount of goods lined up on the shelves. You can see Riekom's character give an enthusiastic thumbs up. There's even a small aquarium to view in the game(ffxiv gold), but even more exciting: Chocobo the three narrators shout in unison.

"Many different people are working throughout the town," says Riekom as a Roegadyn pounds an ingot. They remark how an Elezen begins to cry as she cuts open an onion for her cooking. Some more scenes of characters whipping up food get Riekom even more excited. Then all three are pleasantly surprised to see a hamburg steak being fried up. Hamburg steak(hamburger meat served without the bun meatloaf style) is a very popular and common dish in Japan.

After the cooking tour is finished, Riekom then says she'll introduce everyone to some of the character emotes. "Lalafell! How cute! It's dancing!" they exclaim. The video finishes up with Riekom apologizing for only being able to show eager adventurers so little this first time around. But she continues to say we can look forward to seeing more parts of Eorzea in future videos!"Look forward to next time!" they cheer as their characters wave to the audience.

FFXIV:Paranoid Lenders

— Posted by babbie @ 02:29

The basic system would be as follows: When trading there would be some sort of option labeled "lend" which when checked, pops up a dialog which would allow you to specify a time period, hours, days, weeks. A short time before expiring (minutes before) the borrower would receive a message telling him so, with the option to renew which would then prompt the lender. If the item is not renewed it is automatically sent to lenders inbox .

This would work great in linkshells/guilds who have a stash of equipment(ffxiv gil), and who are looking to recruit low level members. What a great member perk it would be to have equipment to offer members. Personally enjoy the struggle of the low levels for currency, equipment, and resources, but if you had been playing a game for years, or if you were new then a gear lending system would be great.

If done right, the system would be fairly hard to abuse badly. In fact, the only "abuse" we could see are people lending out their gear for money. But wait, doesn't that already happen? Take FFXIV. You get a piece of equipment for your Thief. You use it, but then want to switch to a Mage job. What do you do? You put it on the AH. (Or store it, but since storage is very limited, most people would put it on the AH.) You play Blm for a week, then want to go back to Thief. What do you do? Buy the equipment back that you sold last week. (And if done correctly, you make a tidy profit.) .

Tips about Career Weapons in FFXIV

— Posted by babbie @ 02:26

In FFXIV, during your quest to unlock the SAM you get a rusty great katana. This sword seems to be well constructed and seems to have immense power so you set yourself on a quest to restore it. At the end of the quest you have the rust removed and you get your level(ffxiv gold) 1 great katana and the ability to use it. The item description would read something like this: Rust-Free Great Katana ; Level 1 ;Damage: 5-8 .You removed the rust from the sword it seems to have great potential.

However, this didn't restore it's full power, simply made it usable. At level 10 you get another quest that further restores its power, changing its appearance slightly and increasing its stats to match that level's requirements. Now it reads something like this: Trusty Great Katana ;Level 10 ;Damage: 15-21 ;+1 STR .You've restored some of it's power but it's yearning for more.

This would occur every 10 levels or so and as you continue the quests your sword would grow in power and the history of the sword would come to light. In between quests you'd probably replace your sword with another one or two but when the next quest comes along you switch back. The final product would be something like: Japanese name of a sword;Level 70 ;Damage 90-112 ;+20 STR ;+200 HP; On Hit: 20 Fire Damage ;Chance on Hit: Stun .Your Sword was forged by the artisans of some great guild of blacksmithing for the greatest and final King of some long dead country, some name of a king, who died only because he didn't have this sword by his side. You and the sword have come a long way together, it will never leave your side.

The best part is as the game progresses more quests can come to further augment the sword. The whole point of this is to create bond with the weapon much as was the case when swords were used as it will stay with you for the entire your entire career as that specific class. It addresses the problem with WoW in that you feel like your work is for nothing since you raid and raid for weapons only to be replaced with the next one and it addresses the problem of FFXIV where many people find it too daunting to gain the relic weapons since it takes forever and a half to do. It's a sword that you'll replace every now and again but you'll always go back to it as it's power increases. The same process can apply for every weapon type (and class) and even armor.

The Communication of the New Yoo Tube Video Hate in Star Trek Online

— Posted by babbie @ 08:58

That makes sense to you because with all the flak over admirals in Star Trek Online, you have seen very few in game and you've been playing for three weeks.Maybe they're hanging out somewhere far away from the main sectors of space or have just managed to be in a different one than you're in everytime. But you're right in that they need to add end game content because hitting max level(Star Trek Online Credits)and having nothing to do is the death knell of any MMO.Careful with that Axe Eugene.Great piece of music by Pink Floyd that not heard it for a long time.Regardless of content and you commend the video maker's choice of music.Anyone that paid attention to STO's beta feedback or were in the beta themselves and still decided to go ahead knew there was a shortage of content and that the game was buggy and imbalanced. It can't have been breaking news to any but the willfully misinformed.

So to claim to have been in the beta or at least infer knowledge of the beta and be shocked at having nothing to do 22 days in this guy must have made every effort to avoid the blinding obvious. And outrage at having a heavily cinematic trailer?Because no game ever does that.Time for a Commanche grade roflcopter.A better tack would have been to focus on Atari's cockup right from the start and perhaps of laced the video with a few facts outside of merely showing the retail price.Still,it was a nice opportunity to hear careful with that Axe Eugene for the first time in a long time.

The spreading of the New Yoo Tube Video Hate in Star Trek Online

— Posted by babbie @ 08:49

You have yet to see any official gametrailer with 100% ingame footage in Star Trek Online.Just look at the awesome Hellgate London trailers, diablo, wow and so on,that had like nothing to do with the game. Its advertisement, like those diet drinks that are supposed to make you loose weight,or red bull drinks that are supposed to make you fly.Its painstakingly obvious which parts of the trailer are rendered and which are from the actual gameplay. If your're not able to differentiate between reality and advertisement you probably shouldn't play online games without parental supervision anyway.

Can't believe the stuff people complain about? But mom the man in the commercial said that.Edit:And you already agreed in your post above yours that the youtube video is basicly correct. That makes sense to me because with all the flak over Admirals, you have seen very few in game and you've been playing for three weeks.Maybe they're hanging out somewhere far away from the main sectors of space or have just managed to be in a different one than you're in everytime.

But you're right in that they need to add end game content because hitting max level and having nothing to do is the death knell of any MMO.Actually this is not correct, he claims after 30 days of moderate play you will be out of content. You have been playing close to 30 days and still discover new content every day.So guess not everything was the truth after all.If you have a good high level weapon(star trek online gold)you can kill mostly all with one shot and you will be win.
